My lifelong, grand romance with music...
|
Music plays an increasingly important role in shaping and directing the beliefs and ideas of our rapidly changing world.
I believe that the music we listen to can literally orchestrate our individual life experiences.
Music is a potent and powerful energy!
It is essential that we consciously engage and personally interact with Music...

One of my favorite singers... Abida Parveen is considered by many on the Indian subcontinent to be the queen of Sufi
mystical singing. Her inspiration is the Sufi saint Shah Abdul Latif, an 18th century poet and
composer who blended folk music and classical raga in a style known as kafi. Ms. Parveen
sings in Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi, Seraiki (a Sindhi dialect).
Ms. Parveen primarily sings the structured, poetic kafi as well as
the soulful ghazal genre of singing and improvisational qawwali style.
For the ultimate high, I strongly recommend purchasing her "Mystic Poetry" CD and
trying to sing along...the playful breathing alone involved in the singing will be a thrill...
then there is the perfect Urdu pronounciation and the romantic, enchanting interview answers...
(The good news is if you don't speak a language besides English (like me) it's still an
exquisite adventure into what is, in my opinion, the best part of the/my culture...the music,
the tabla, the lyric melody, the improv, the note arrangments passed down from older generations that hint at secrets from the beginning of time, different from anything you've ever experienced...)
update-2008 My First Blog Style Online Entry:
GUESS WHAT?!
I was just doing much needed stuff around the house with B4U Music on aaaand Abida Parveen's voice comes on and she's singing one of those songs I sing allll the time since I was like 9! A song from a cassette (yes a cassette - google it if you don't know what that is) that mom and dad and T and I used to just listen to right before bed sometimes on a weekend.
The song is entitled "Ek Bus Tu Bhe Naheen Muj Se Khafa Ho Betha" (I'm sure I spelled that all wrong) sung by Mehdi Hassan.
OK - so I'm excited that people out there still like music I like as well as the fun, dance stuff. YAY!
Thanks for reading. Have a ginormous, bigger-than-life, fun, fantabulous day!
